Top Tips From Kevin Murphy

TACKLE HUMIDITY HEAD-ON: TOP TIPS FROM HAIR GURU KEVIN MURPHY

With the change in seasons and cold, wet days becoming more frequent, your hair can start to suffer and have a mind of its own. But don’t fear – international hair master Kevin Murphy has some tips on how to prep your hair to handle the humidity as best you can.

“On humid days, what you put in your hair and what you keep in your handbag are as important as how you style it, never leave home without your dry shampoo or powdered texturiser, they are your best friend on damp days” says Murphy.

“The most painless way to deal with humidity is to go with a low maintenance hairstyle. For the very humid days, go for a sleek ponytail, a bun or a messy plait. Try and use products that don’t contain too much moisture as this only attracts more moisture.”

“You can create a loose messy braid and go for the modern milk maid look.”

Murphy also recommends keeping your hair off the shoulders and neck so the movement created from the damp air looks intentional, FRESH.HAIR and POWDER.PUFF work perfectly for a fresh, tousled, ‘weather friendly’ style.

“If you have thick hair, go with wavy or curly hairstyles. Humidity is great for creating curl, just use a light lotion and stay away from heavy moisturisers and waxes. Lightweight products and lotions work best in humidity, and if you want a style with volume, you can create it by teasing at the roots,” explains Murphy.

There are a few tools Kevin Murphy recommends to fight the frizz during the change in seasons, which we’ve included below.

APRIL 2014 - Her Fashion Box

Would you believe me if I said my March box arrived a week before I received Aprils box? Well that's exactly happened to me, Her Fashion Boxes just seem to be arriving later and later as time goes on. I felt left outta the loop on Aprils box as there wasn't much follow up by the social media person. There was an email sent out in the last couple of days of April, promising that boxes would be mailed out the next day. couple weeks later, still nothing. At this point I was very annoyed, as I didn't receive a email back with a follow up, nor a reply back to facebook, twitter or Instagram comments.

There wasn't a reason given for why the boxes were so late, just that the team have been working really hard getting them out. I totally understand things happen and are completely outta people's control but it's quite frustrating paying for a monthly subscription, not getting it on time and not getting a form of contact back. For a service you're paying for turns out like this, kinda makes me want to cancel my subscription.

Anyways enough about my rant / sooking. haha lets just start this:

Bonus Gift: I received a Her Fashion Box tote as my free gift for completing March's survey. Great little bag for shopping or carrying my Uni books.
1) Cedel - Coconut Bay Hairspray ($4.99)
I love my hair products and I love hairspray even more! I love how the fragrance smells exactly like coconut. Which is quite refreshing! I've perilously owned this. it's super lightweight, non sticky and easy to brush out. The packaging is also very cute and funky.

2) Manicare - Fashion Nail Shaper ($1.95)
I'm not much of a nail person. However I'm a sucker for packaging and this packaging is adorable. It'd definitely come in handy, something small to throw into your bag.

3) Urban Rituelle - Coconut & Honey ($4.95)
Im a fan of Urban Rituelle and loved their perfume bottle in February's box. However this certain product won't be used by me. Don't assume I'm being rude, I'm actually allergic to soap, along with honey. However it does smell lovely. I may pass this onto a friend or keep for a giveaway.

4) Mor - Five Sachets Of Hand Cream (80ml - $14.95)
I've tried a few of these hand creams before and I love them! The formula absorbs into the skin quickly, helps soothes dry hands leaving them feeling pampered, restored moisture and with a lovely scent. I'll most likely save these for a giveaway or pass onto someone.

5) Her Fashion Box - Luminesce Socks ($24.95)
These are cute knee high socks and perfect for the colder months but I don't see myself wearing them. I'm not really a huge fan on knee high socks nor do I see what makes these socks worth $24.95? I'll wear them around the house, but doubt I'd wear them outside.

6) Her Fashion Box - White Noise Earrings ($19.95)
Another product I won't be able to use, only because I no longer have my ears pierced. However theyre cute and love the detail. Another product for a giveaway.

7) Her Fashion Box - Coraline Cuff ($19.95)
I already own a similar cuff in pink. It's a cute bracelet to add an extra pop to an outfit. I love the look, colours and spike details! definitely going to get a lot of wear.

Overall: 5 outta 7 products will not be used by me, so this months box is disappointing. It really wasn't worth waiting for, however I'm sure these products are more appealing to others but if I wasn't allergic, had my ears pierced and hadn't tried some of these products before I would of enjoyed this box. But I'm excited for May's box for their designer collaboration, so fingers crossed May's will make up for Aprils.

LUSH - Fight Against Animal Testing!

Leading ethical retailer, LUSH Cosmetics has this week partnered with animal rights groups;Humane Society InternationalBe Cruelty Free and Humane Research Australia, to stage a national campaign (May 12 – 18 2014) calling on the Australian government to follow in the steps of the European Union and ban cosmetics testing on animals.

Throughout LUSH’s 25 stores across Australia, staff will be handing out educational material to customers this week about a parliamentary bill that is currently up for debate in the Australian Senate called the ‘End of Cruel Cosmetics’ bill. If passed, this bill will mark the end of animal testing for cosmetics in Australia. LUSH is encouraging customers to sign a petition in support of this bill online at: http://bit.ly/HSIbecrueltyfree. On Saturday 17 May at midday, a minute’s silence will also be held in LUSH stores nationally to honour all of the animals who have suffered due to cosmetics testing.

According to Hannah Stuart from Humane Research Australia, “Testing cosmetics like mascara and shampoo on living creatures is a completely unnecessary cruelty and it’s time Australia joined a growing number of countries by banning it. Without a legal ban in Australia, there is nothing to prevent cosmetics animal testing now or in the future, and cosmetics tested on animals overseas are still sold in shops throughout the country.”

Since its inception over 30 years ago, LUSH Cosmetics has been committed to end animal testing in the cosmetics industry. To LUSH, ‘fighting animal testing’ is more than just a slogan or marketing initiative; it is a genuine practice. LUSH does not and will not test any of its products or ingredients on animals, nor buy ingredients from suppliers who engage in any animal testing.

Despite many practical alternatives, laboratory testing of product and various toxic substances on animals is still commonplace in the cosmetics industry. Throughout the European Union, however, animal testing of cosmetics is already banned and a sales ban was implemented in March 2013. Outside the EU animal testing for cosmetics continues and is even a legal requirement in some countries. This inspired LUSH co-founder Mark Constantine to recently develop The Lush Prize (www.lushprize.org), a fund of £250,000 to reward outstanding contributions toward ending the use of animals in product safety testing.

REVIEW: Give Me Clean Hair Dry Shampoo - Eleven Australia

What do you do when you wake up with a few minutes before you have to fly out the door and there's no time for a quick shower? How about when your already-fine hair looks flat? Whatever your hair emergency may be, there's a good chance that dry shampoo can fix it. From greasy roots to lifeless locks, every girl can benefit from this hair helper.

So when it comes to styling my hair, I always turn to Eleven Australia. Eleven is an Australian brand that is used by many of Australia’s top hair stylists. They've a wide range of products from treatments, to styling products, and of course shampoo and conditioners. So you'd understand why I grab their products over anything else.

ELEVEN AUSTRALIA *
GIVE ME CLEAN HAIR:
DRY SHAMPOO
RRP: $22.95

Eleven Dry Shampoo claims to remove excess oil, leaving your hair refreshed without using water. With a light scent of coconuts. This product helps take away the greasy look around the hairline and crown. Eleven Dry Shampoo comes in a nice looking 130g white aerosol spray can, with simple orange writing. It is a simple, yet very stylish and modern looking spray can, which is also very easy to use.

The product is super easy and quick to apply. Start by shaking the can and spraying at least 25cms away onto the roots of your hair. Allow the product to fully absorb any excess oil, before working it through with your hands to disperse it. Just like other dry shampoos I've tried, it leaves my hair feeling thick, matte and straw-like. Which isn't appealing, but in saying that. Eleven Dry Shampoo is far from that and doesn't leave behind white residue or any other dullness.

Overall I really like this dry shampoo - It gets rid of left over oils until I wash it later that night. It also gives an extra boost of volume. It has a floral and coconut scent, which is lovely. The scent does last all day. It's a great product for in between washes. It's definitely been my favourite go-to dry shampoo lately. I would different recommended to anyone who's seeking to try new products.
